What a week last week was! Let me begin by telling you about my Mont Ventoux adventure in France. Last year some friends came up with the idea to cycle up Mont Ventoux from Bedoin, France. Why? Because it's their birthday and they thought 'going uphill' would be nicer to be 'going downhill'.
Cycling up Mont Ventoux is seen as a big challenge. Last year one of the Tour de France stages actually finished on the Ventoux. And the mountain has got a rich and sad history with regard to the death of English cyclist Tom Simpson. He collapsed just 2km before the finish.
When I was invited for this cycling adventure I immediately said 'yes'. But: I would be running up. Don't even have a bike! This 'yes' has proven to be quite a challenge. Here, safely in flat Holland, it was easy to think of running up Mont Ventoux as being a training run. Going 21,5km straight up seemed not that big a deal. Well things changed in France....
